Another fabulous year where we welcomed some fantastic

artists and enjoyed some great music....

Performed Sunday 8 September 2013 @ The Pike & Eel, Needingworth

Sam Baker grew up in a prairie town, Itasca, TX, where he was exposed to a wide array of music as a child by his mother, a local church organist, and his father, who shared a hefty collection of country blues artists. A defining moment in Baker's life came in 1986 when he was traveling on a train in Peru. A terrorist bomb exploded and he was gravely injured, the passengers with whom he had made friends, not so lucky. His journey back to physical, emotional, and spiritual health formed his quiet and passionate view of the world we hear about in his songs. He has released three critically acclaimed albums, 2004's Mercy, 2007's Pretty World, and 2009’s Cotton, and is looking forward to his 2013 release, Say Grace.

Session 1:  Friday 1 February 2013

Adrian Nation has evolved into one of the most insightful and incisive songwriters of his generation. In 1998, Adrian and accomplished guitarist Tim Whitnell formed Six Feet Above. The duo produced one album, Tide’s Up, from which Waiting Game attracted generous airplay in Europe and America. Adrian's two solo albums have had great reviews and he is a stalwart of the festival, folk and acoustic scene touring and gigging constantly. This is music that comes from the heart and goes to the heart, wonderfully written and fearlessly yet gently delivered .

Grace Sarah

Support comes from Grace Sarah who had an amazing first year of gigging in 2012 , winning the Senior Cambridge Band Competition and playing at several festivals..she is shooting a Burberry Acoustic Session which is scheduled for release in January 2013..all this at the tender age of 14!

Session 2:  Friday 1 March 2013

Singer-songwriter Annie Dressner recently moved from her hometown of New York City to the UK, she has earned rave reviews for her "passionate, conversational awkwardness," and for the "twilight poignancy" found on her confident, quirky album "Strangers Who Knew Each Other's Names." Filled with "a majestic loneliness," Dressner's poignant songs are delivered with such conversational ease, it often seems as if she is reading from an intimate letter or a book, set to music. Her straightforward lyrical style, sharp ear for wordplay and crisp, lilting vocals offer listeners a front-row seat to her stories, as they take shape above the understated music. ...

Will Mak

Special guest is Will Mak .. a keyboard wielding solo artist singer/songwriter, who plays & sings like his life depends on it, creates soulful, passion-fuelled grooves, & wraps heartfelt, profound lyrics around them. Will stamps his own distinct signature across his whole repertoire, kicking loose & singing live over backing track accompaniment on some tracks, whilst revelling in a pure live keys & vocals mash up on others. ...

Session 3: Friday 5 April 2013

The amazing Shaun T Hunter aka Quiet Rebellion has performed and sold albums across Europe, and was Acoustic/Roots Artist of 2006 in the Independent Leeds Music Awards.

Tom Copson

Cambridgeshire singer-songwriter Tom Copson is armed with an incredible four-octave range and a sense of humour, as well as a guitar and omnichord. It’s no surprise that Tom’s performance style, as well as his songwriting ability, has led him to prestigious stages (Cambridge Folk Festival, Hop Farm, Proud Galleries Camden), famous fans (Tom Robinson, Seasick Steve, Ezio) and, in 2012, the release of his debut album ‘Woven’.

Session 4: Friday 3 May 2013

Alice Walker is a singer songwriter from a small town in Essex. Her songs are about love, and life, and dead things and live things. When she grows up she wants to be a mountain. She sometimes plays with a band, called AlicebanD. The big D makes the word look symmetrical, which makes her feel balanced. They have played in big venues and small venues and festivals and parties, and want to play at bigger places like palaces and castles. They've actually played in a castle... And with Joan Armatrading… And with Wilko Johnson…and with themselves… But not in the same room…That would be weird!

Barnaby Bones - frontman of Cambridge band and festival favourites 'The Binewski Murder' .

Will Robert’s craft for strong song writing has been honed through busking around the UK, and playing venues up and down the country as the frontman in various bands as well as a solo performer. Over the years, he has developed his own brand of infectious, guitar focused acoustic music. 2012 was an exciting year, performing live sessions on Cambridge 105 FM and BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, and recording his debut EP ‘Line Of Sight’. He was also one of 200 artists selected nationally to attend the BBC Introducing Master class held at Abbey Road and Maida Vale Studios London. Will’s second EP ‘Mosaic’ was released in January 2013 on itunes…

“With a spellbinding mastery of the guitar, Will Robert is truly something special to behold. With soulful folk tones, his vocal straddles beautiful melodies that will ring in the ears for days to come. We will refrain from comparing him to anyone and ask you to judge for yourself....we are sure you will find it as glorious as we do.” – Nova Music London

Session 6: Friday 5 July 2013

David 9 Lunas is an accomplished singer/songwriter guitarist and poet hailing from Trinidad, Tottenham and Tenerife. A hard core professional soloist, David's material stretches from a raw bluesy feel through to the more elegant influence of the likes of Nick Drake and Roy Harper. His voice is hauntingly compelling and accompanied by his sophisticated guitar playing, simply demands attention!" His lyrics are wonderous and meaningful with a hippy edge. His vocal style ranges between gentle and soothing to tremendously and awesomely powerful. Mind-blowing!.

“Once in a while I am pleasantly surprised by a performance or by finding a new artist David 9 was excellent and completely unexpected. His voice is good, he plays a fine acoustic guitar and he writes good, amusing and memorable, songs but his performance was more than the combination of these and he delivered very fine entertainment I will look forward to seeing him again and if you see him performing anywhere you will be in for a treat” Music News
